October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, build understanding, and celebrate the many strengths and talents of individuals with dyslexia.

Dyslexia is a common learning difference that primarily affects reading, spelling, and written language skills. It is not a reflection of intelligence, effort, or potential. In fact, many individuals with dyslexia are highly creative, innovative problem-solvers who demonstrate exceptional strengths in areas such as critical thinking, storytelling, design, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

At Devon Middle School, we are committed to creating a learning environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. Throughout the month, we will be engaging in activities and conversations that help students better understand dyslexia, challenge misconceptions, and recognize the unique strengths that diverse learners bring to our school community.

We encourage families to join us in promoting awareness and advocacy by:

  • Learning more about dyslexia and how it impacts learners.
  • Celebrating the strengths, talents, and achievements of individuals with dyslexia.
  • Encouraging empathy, kindness, and acceptance of different learning styles.
  • Helping students understand that everyone learns differently and that these differences make our community stronger.

For students with dyslexia, awareness and understanding can make a profound difference. When students feel seen, supported, and encouraged, they are more likely to develop confidence, resilience, and a positive sense of self as learners.

Together, we can continue to foster a school community that embraces neurodiversity, values inclusion, and empowers all students to thrive.

Thank you for your partnership in supporting every learner at DMS!
